Sectra, a company specialising in medical imaging IT and cybersecurity, has announced that Universitätsmedizin Göttingen (UMG Göttingen) in Germany will expand its enterprise imaging solution to include the Sectra Amplifier Service.

The AI service, hosted on Microsoft Azure’s public cloud, will enable UMG Göttingen to integrate selected AI applications into its clinical workflows. The integration aims to enhance workflow efficiency and improve patient care by streamlining processes.

Universitätsmedizin Göttingen senior physician in radiology Dr Babak Panahi said: “For us, it is important that we provide our clinicians with technology that facilitates their daily work and helps them deliver faster diagnoses to our patients.

“As the first German university hospital to implement this solution, we are proud to take on a pioneering role in exploring how supporting AI tools can improve safety and quality for our patients.”

Panahi added: “Having already seen workflow improvements with Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution, expanding our partnership was a natural next step.

“With all AI applications available in one place, through a single vendor, and already validated by Sectra—who also takes full responsibility for implementation and operation—made it far easier to move from curiosity to reality.

“This will remove much of the complexity and time investment for us, enabling us to benefit from AI from day one.”

The Sectra Amplifier Service allows UMG Göttingen to incorporate third-party AI applications within a single infrastructure. This unified system reduces the need for managing multiple separate systems, thereby lowering security risks.

Sectra will oversee the entire process, from integration and deployment to hosting and ongoing support, alleviating IT burdens for UMG Göttingen.

The initial contract for Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution was signed by UMG Göttingen in 2024. The new agreement for the Sectra Amplifier Service was finalised in the first quarter of Sectra’s 2025/2026 fiscal year.

Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution offers a comprehensive strategy for all imaging needs within a single system, aiming to improve outcomes and reduce operational costs.

The solution is scalable and modular, with a Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) at its core, allowing healthcare providers to expand across different specialities and enterprises without the need for a new backend system.
