William Osler Health System (Osler) in Canada has partnered with Sectra, a global medical imaging IT and cybersecurity company to enhance patient care and workflow efficiency.
Under the collaboration, Osler will leverage artificial intelligence (AI) through the Sectra Amplifier Service, to integrate selected AI applications into their clinical workflows
The Sectra Amplifier Service is a fully managed, cloud-hosted AI platform that enables Osler to incorporate vetted third-party AI applications into its clinical processes.
It runs multiple AI applications on a unified infrastructure, reduces security risks and IT burdens, assuming responsibility for integration, deployment, hosting, and ongoing support.
William Osler Health System vice president, digital transformation and chief information and privacy officer David Stankiewicz said: “With Sectra Amplifier Services, we have the opportunity to transform our everyday workflows and consistently deliver high-quality, people-centred care across our facilities.
“We are excited to grow our partnership with Sectra as we embark on this new journey together.”
Osler, based in Ontario, serves over 1.3 million people across five sites and conducts more than 575,000 diagnostic imaging exams annually.
The hospital system has been utilising Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution since 2019, initially with the orthopaedics module.
In 2023, Osler expanded to include modules for radiology and breast imaging, as well as Sectra’s vendor-neutral archive (VNA).
Sectra Amplifier Services is part of Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution, which offers a unified strategy for all imaging needs while reducing operational costs.
The scalable solution, centred around a VNA, allows healthcare providers to expand from ology to ology and from enterprise to enterprise.
Sectra Canada president Nader Soltani said: “Many healthcare providers are intrigued by AI’s potential to address workload challenges. The transition from curiosity to full integration into clinical workflows can be a significant leap.
“I am happy that Sectra can make this transition easier for William Osler Health System and I am grateful for their trust as we support them on this exciting new chapter.”
