US-based digital health company Altera Digital Health and Hospital for Special Care (HFSC), a non-profit, long-term acute care hospital based in Connecticut, have extended their partnership.

Under the expanded collaboration, HFSC will continue to use Altera Digital Health’s Sunrise electronic health record (EHR) platform through 2032.

HFSC will upgrade to the latest version, Sunrise 25.1, which can potentially enhance financial operations and clinical usability.

In addition, HFSC will be the first to implement Sunrise Health Record, a new intelligent faxing solution from Altera.

Sunrise Health Record will help HFSC reduce manual faxing errors by integrating faxing capabilities within the Sunrise health information management (HIM) deficiency management workflow.

It enables HFSC to send deficiency notices without needing to switch systems.

Also, the intelligent faxing solution provides automated inbound fax routing, single-click outbound faxing, and real-time fax tracking, thereby supporting critical communication, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.

Altera Digital Health Sunrise executive vice president Jay Adams said: “We’re proud to continue supporting HFSC as this renewal sets the stage for collaboration and innovation into the next decade.

“Sunrise 25.1 and new offerings like Sunrise Health Record give our clients the ability to keep pace with healthcare’s evolution while also supporting critical operations that drive growth and long-term stability.”

HFSC is the fourth-largest long-term acute care hospital in the US, serving New Britain, Hartford and Hebron municipalities in the state of Connecticut.

Also, it is one of only two facilities providing complex rehabilitation and chronic disease treatment for both children and adults.

The hospital has been using the Sunrise platform for over ten years to meet its operational needs.

The new Sunrise 25.1 version introduces around 700 enhancements, aimed at improving financial performance.

The enhancements include centralised billing tools, simplified denial and appeals tracking, and automated provider-level adjustments

The additional features allow healthcare providers to allocate more time to patient care through real-time insights, automation of administrative tasks, and streamlined clinical workflows.

Hospital for Special Care chief information officer Stan Jankowski said: “Altera has been a true partner through every phase of our EHR journey, demonstrating a commitment to transparency, responsiveness and alignment with our long-term goals.

“Expanding our partnership reflects our confidence in both the Sunrise platform and team.

“This is more than a technology decision, it’s a strategic investment in infrastructure and resources that will support organisational stability and clinical excellence in the years to come.”

In May this year, Altera Digital Health launched its integrated operating theatre system at Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) to optimise theatre management and clinical documentation.
