Ambience Healthcare has launched Chart Chat, its advanced AI copilot integrated directly into Epic’s electronic health record (EHR) system.

Chart Chat aims to provide healthcare providers with context-aware clinical insights by leveraging patient chart data and medical content from BMJ Best Practice.

BMJ Best Practice is an evidence-based, clinical decision support tool powered by OpenAI’s Reinforcement Fine Tuning technology.

Chart Chat allows healthcare providers to ask natural language questions about a patient’s medical history, lab results, prior treatments, and risk factors, mitigating information overload.

Also, the AI copilot delivers structured, relevant answers within seconds.

Ambience Healthcare co-founder and chief scientist Nikhil Buduma said: “Over the past several years, we’ve built and deployed clinical AI that’s trusted by thousands of physicians to support real-time documentation, coding, and patient care.

“Chart Chat builds on that foundation, bringing together cutting-edge language models, real-time EHR context, and trusted clinical content to create the most advanced bedside assistant in healthcare.

“The launch of Chart Chat marks a pivotal moment for conversational chart intelligence in the United States.”

Chart Chat comes with the feature to combine real-time notes from patient visits with data from the patient’s complete medical record.

The integration enables healthcare providers to receive faster, more precise answers without needing to switch between tools or manually compile information.

It also integrates literature access, offering quick summaries and references from the latest licensed literature and open-source data from PubMed and FDA databases.

Ambience plans to roll out Chart Chat to its users over the coming months.

St. Luke’s Health System doctor Trevor Satterfield said: “This technology can fundamentally change how physicians interact with the medical record.

“It lets me ask specific questions about the patient’s history or treatment, questions that could take minutes of searching to answer, and get clear, accurate responses in seconds.”
