Onvida Health and Ambience Healthcare have announced the launch of an AI pilot programme across multiple clinical sites in Arizona, starting in June this year.
Founded in 2020, Ambience Healthcare provides healthcare providers with generative AI that reduces documentation burdens, alleviates provider burnout, and enhances care quality.
Onvida Health is a not-for-profit hospital system that operates with 430 inpatient beds, 45 outpatient clinics, and an emergency department.
It comprises 495 providers across 52 specialities, supported by 4000 employees and numerous volunteers, providing care for patients in Yuma County and southwestern Arizona.
The initiative aims to enhance clinical documentation and coding through Ambience’s advanced AI applications, integrated directly within Epic’s EHR system.
Onvida Health senior vice president and chief information officer Marc Chasin said: “We are investing in the most advanced AI platform in healthcare because we believe the best patient care starts with supporting our clinicians.
“Ambience will allow our clinicians to spend less time on paperwork and more time with their patients, while improving quality, accuracy and compliance.”
Onvida Health Medical Group president Kristina Diaz said: “By equipping our clinicians with Ambience’s AI technology, we’re ensuring that every patient receives more personalised attention, more thorough care, and a better overall experience.
“This partnership is about giving our patients and clinicians the time, focus, and quality they deserve, putting the human connection back at the centre of every visit.”
Onvida Health clinicians in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency department settings will utilise Ambience’s suite of AI tools to generate real-time, comprehensive documentation.
The move underscores Onvida Health’s dedication to improving patient care quality while supporting clinicians with innovative technology to boost efficiency and reduce burnout.
The AI applications offered by Ambience include scribing for over 100 medical specialities, a CDI assistant for precise ICD-10 and CPT coding, patient summaries, and referral letters.
The tools are designed to minimise administrative tasks, allowing providers to focus more on patient interaction and ensuring documentation integrity and compliance.
Ambience’s platform enables clinicians to prepare agendas before patient visits.
During consultations, the AI listens to conversations and uses historical EHR data to automate documentation, including clinical notes and coding suggestions.
The technology is already in use at several leading health systems across North America, such as the Cleveland Clinic and UCSF Health.
Ambience Healthcare CEO and co-founder Mike Ng said: “We are honoured to partner with Onvida Health, an organisation deeply committed to putting patients first, supporting their providers, and driving innovation.
“Today, clinicians spend only about a quarter of their time on direct patient care, and together with Onvida Health, we are going to change that.
“By supporting every clinical encounter with Ambience’s AI technology, we’re helping clinicians reclaim their time, enhance compliance and accuracy, and refocus healthcare around what matters most: the patient.”
