Tuva Health, the first open-source healthcare data transformation platform, has partnered with accountable care organisation MultiCare Connected Care (MCC) to optimise patient data.
MCC, part of MultiCare Health System, will collaborate with Tuva Health to build, operate and manage its enterprise healthcare data platform.
Additionally, MultiCare Capital Partners, MultiCare’s strategic investment arm, has invested in Tuva Health.
The partnership marks Tuva Health as the first open-source data platform backed by a health system.
With the investment, Tuva Health’s total funding reaches $6m.
Under the collaboration, Tuva Health will help MCC analyse and gain insights from the claims and clinical data of over 375,000 patients in Washington state, accelerating and improving care decisions.
The partnership will also support the increasing demand for healthcare systems to have greater control, transparency, and flexibility in managing their data.
Tuva Health CEO and co-founder Aaron Neiderhiser said: “Healthcare is ready for industry-wide data transformation, and this partnership is evidence that large organisations recognise the value of our open-source approach and are tired of black-box solutions that inhibit their ability to make data-driven decisions.”
MCC’s internal data team will use Tuva Health’s fully managed data platform, benefiting from the open-source model’s flexibility to tailor the platform to its specific needs.
With Tuva Health, health systems like MultiCare gain full control over their data platform, including the code it runs on, without starting from scratch. This reduces implementation costs by 90% or more, the healthcare data transformation firm said.
Tuva Health’s library of open-source algorithms and terminology sets is free, saving organisations a significant amount of money annually.
By embracing open-source solutions, MultiCare is expected to influence other healthcare organisations to adopt these products with strong governance, security, and risk management.
MultiCare population health and value-based care associate vice president Anna Taylor said: “We thought we needed to build our own platform to address this. However, upon discovering Tuva Health’s open-source platform, it became clear that they could help us achieve our goals more quickly and at a fraction of the cost.”
The partnership announcement follows Tuva Health’s launch out of stealth late last year, backed by $5m in funding.
Tuva Health now boasts a growing network of over 30 partners, including healthcare providers, payers, life sciences companies, and research institutions.
