Terumo Health Outcomes (THO) has signed a US distribution agreement with Caretaker Medical to provide the VitalStream wearable hemodynamic monitoring platform.

VitalStream is a non-invasive device that allows clinicians to detect cardiovascular changes earlier, offering real-time, beat-by-beat insights through a low-pressure finger sensor and patented Pulse Decomposition Analysis technology.

Approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), VitalStream delivers continuous blood pressure and advanced hemodynamic monitoring without invasive catheters.

The technology aims to enhance patient outcomes, improve clinician productivity, and maximise patient comfort and compliance by eliminating wires and reducing complexity.

THO and Caretaker Medical are focused on enabling clinicians to respond with confidence in high-acuity cardiovascular settings such as cath labs and cardiac step-down units.

The partnership aims to facilitate timely and accurate interventions, which are critical in these environments.

Terumo Interventional Systems president Ghada Farah said: “Clinicians need reliable, non-invasive options for continuous monitoring, particularly in settings where invasive lines aren’t feasible or desired.

“Caretaker’s VitalStream technology fits our mission of delivering tools that support earlier intervention and more informed decisions, while also helping hospitals improve clinical workflows and patient safety.”

THO, a division of Terumo Interventional Systems (TIS), offers a portfolio of interventional devices that complement the predictive insights of THO’s ePRISM platform.

The partnership helps clinicians make informed decisions, potentially reducing hospital costs and recovery times by optimising treatment strategies and supporting procedural efficiency.

TIS, a division of Terumo, is specialised in minimally invasive entry site management and interventional technologies.

It offers coronary, peripheral, and endovascular solutions, with initiatives in Transradial Access, Complex Coronary Intervention, Peripheral Artery Disease, and Embolotherapy.

Based in Tokyo, Japan, Terumo started as a thermometer manufacturer and operates globally, employing over 30,000 associates in more than 160 countries.

Currently, the company offers a diverse range of medical solutions, including vascular intervention, cardio-surgical solutions, and blood transfusion technology.

Caretaker Medical is a digital health company focused on developing wireless patient monitoring solutions that cover the entire continuum of care.

Caretaker Medical CEO Jeff Pompeo said: “We’re excited to partner with Terumo Health Outcomes to deliver impactful solutions for the early identification and improved treatment of shock and heart failure.

“Our VitalStream platform’s capability to deliver real-time, beat-by-beat physiological data – including continuous blood pressure and haemodynamics through a comfortable, non-invasive wearable – is central to this.”
