Royal Philips has expanded its cloud-based radiology informatics solutions to Europe, focusing on generative AI (GenAI) to enhance radiology reporting.

The latest expansion follows the migration of more than 150 sites in North and Latin America to Philips HealthSuite Imaging on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Philips HealthSuite Imaging is a comprehensive cloud-based solution for radiology departments, managed by Philips and hosted on AWS.

It is a pure software-as-a-service (SaaS) model that includes regular upgrades, security patches, and compliance checks.

The solution enables healthcare institutions to secure their data while allowing clinicians to access the latest advancements from any location.

According to Philips, 95% of healthcare providers plan to migrate around half of their applications to the cloud within three years.

With radiology exams available in the cloud, clinicians can access imaging studies and AI-enabled clinical and operational workflows anytime, anywhere, said the company.

Philips enterprise informatics business leader Shez Partovi said: “The availability of Philips’ cloud-based radiology solutions in Europe will be a game changer for healthcare providers, helping them to manage staff shortages, optimize workflows and drive better outcomes.

“The scalability and security of enterprise imaging in the cloud will enable radiology departments to benefit from the transformative power of generative AI and allow clinicians to focus on the most important aspect, bringing better care to more people.”

Philips’ cloud-based solutions offer remote access to scheduling, diagnostic reading, and integrated reporting, with rapid access to emerging technologies as a key advantage.

The solutions allow clinicians to quickly adopt new capabilities, and healthcare organisations to improve operational efficiency and reduce IT management burdens.

The company is exploring GenAI to enhance conversational reporting, helping healthcare providers in managing rising clinical demands and workforce shortages.

It aims to create scalable GenAI applications that leverage advanced foundation models from Amazon Bedrock and easily integrate them into clinical workflows.

Erasmus Medical Center radiologist and CMIO JJ Visser said: “Ambient reporting in radiology is just the beginning of using large language models in reporting.

“It’s not only about speed; with fewer distractions from the reporting tool, I can focus more on image details and produce higher-quality reports in less time. I anticipate even greater advancements in the coming years.”
