Marana Health, a multispecialty federally qualified health centre in Tucson, Arizona, is set to enhance its patient care delivery through a partnership with athenahealth.
The collaboration aims to optimise clinical, administrative, and operational processes, offering a cohesive patient experience for over 60,000 patients served by 118 providers.
It will integrate athenahealth’s solutions to provide Marana Health with a comprehensive view of patients’ medical and dental health, facilitating whole-patient care coordination.
The approach is expected to improve clinical decision-making and patient outcomes, aligning with the centre’s goal of empowering patients to actively participate in their care.
Marana Health CEO Joshua Carzoli said: “By moving to athenahealth, we are stepping into the future of healthcare.
“athenaOne will help us eliminate the complexities of managing multiple systems, enable us to engage our patients through the channels that suit them best, and allow our staff to focus on what matters most, delivering the best possible care.
“Our partnership with athenahealth will allow us to maximise our resources while giving our patients a more continuous and thoughtful journey through their care.”
athenaOne, a key component of the partnership, offers a user-friendly portal and the athenaPatient mobile application.
The tools allow patients to access health information, communicate with care teams, request prescription refills, and manage appointments online.
Automated outreach via email and text reminders further engages patients in their health management.
Athenahealth chief customer officer Chris Kondrat said: “FQHCs are the foundation of our nation’s healthcare system, but face significant challenges today, including funding instability, shrinking reimbursements, increasing demand for value-based care, and rising patient expectations.
“At athenahealth, we are committed to helping customers like Marana modernise and integrate their clinical and financial operations so they can focus more on performance improvement initiatives that enhance care delivery.”
The collaboration also addresses the needs of Marana Health’s providers by ensuring a seamless experience through athenahealth’s unified electronic health record (EHR) system.
Clinicians will benefit from comprehensive health records, intuitive workflows, and real-time data sharing across healthcare settings, enhancing collaboration among care teams.
Marana Health’s staff will leverage the modern functionality and embedded AI capabilities of athenaOne to automate manual tasks, allowing them to focus on priority work.
athenahealth’s continuous development of AI-powered documentation solutions and speciality workflows supports Marana Health in staying current with industry changes.
Through the partnership, Marana Health joins athenahealth’s network of over 13,000 community health centre providers.
Marana Health chief clinical officer Damilola Oluyitan-Okeze said: “The transition to athenaOne will not only enhance our clinical efficiency but also improve the quality of care we provide.
“We are looking forward to accessing all necessary information and tools from a single platform, and with improved documentation standards and a more intuitive, user-friendly interface we will better serve our patients.
“Additionally, athenaOne will be instrumental in helping us succeed in VBC contracts by streamlining our workflows and enhancing patient engagement, allowing us to concentrate on delivering high-quality care that meets the needs of our community.”
