South Korean diagnostics provider Lunit has been appointed as the exclusive AI partner for the breast cancer screening programme in Spain’s Valencian Community.
The contract involves deploying Lunit INSIGHT MMG and Lunit INSIGHT DBT throughout the Valencian Community.
Lunit said that its selection followed a rigorous assessment of various AI vendors, based on scientific performance, technical integration, and clinical impact.
Its solutions were selected for their capacity to enhance workflows and assist radiologists in providing timely and accurate diagnostics, said the company.
The initiative places the region, alongside other areas such as Iceland, Australia, and Singapore, where Lunit’s AI is already in use for public breast screening programmes.
The Valencian Community is home to around five million people and is recognised for its progressive healthcare initiatives.
It has been at the forefront of integrating digital health technologies, including AI diagnostics, into its public health system.
Last year, the region started using AI in its breast screening programme to boost annual participation from 250,000 to 400,000 women, while maintaining high care standards.
Beyond commercial deployment, Lunit and the Valencian Community will explore new strategies for early cancer detection and improving health outcomes.
Lunit CEO Brandon Suh said: “The Valencian Community’s decision reflects a growing shift in how public health systems embrace AI, not as a future ideal, but as a practical solution to today’s challenges.
“By partnering with one of Europe’s most visionary healthcare authorities, we’re not just improving efficiency, we’re helping shape a new standard for equitable, large-scale cancer screening.”
Earlier this year, Lunit partnered with Starvision Service in Germany to implement AI imaging solutions across 79 locations to optimise radiological practices.
Under the partnership, Lunit will roll out its AI suite, including chest X-ray, mammography, tomosynthesis, and fracture detection, across Starvision’s network.
