Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo), a company focused on integrated musculoskeletal (MSK) value-based care, outcomes management, and care transformation, has acquired Caro Health, a Dutch AI-driven digital health firm.

The acquisition aims to enhance HOPCo’s global digital health platform and expand its presence in Europe.

Founded in 2019, Caro Health has established itself in conversational AI, revolutionising data analysis and communication between patients and healthcare providers.

The company’s AI platform facilitates efficient, personalised communication for nearly 40 healthcare clients in the Netherlands and Belgium, covering various clinical specialities, including orthopaedics.

Following the acquisition, Caro Health’s team will integrate into HOPCo’s Digital Health Division.

Caro Health co-founder and CEO Thomas Goijarts said: “Our partnership with HOPCo enables us to accelerate our technology, expand our reach, and deliver intelligent, personalised healthcare communication on a global scale – faster and more effectively than ever before.

“It will also allow us to better serve our local customers here in the Netherlands and across Europe by leveraging HOPCo’s clinical expertise and comprehensive digital platform and services.

“This will help us stay focused on our core strengths while speeding up the development of patient-centric, value-based technology solutions. We’re excited to be part of the HOPCo Digital Health Team as we work to replicate the success we’ve achieved in Europe and the US.”

Goijarts will assume the role of Head of Products for HOPCo Digital, while Caro’s co-founder, Guusje van der Heijden, will oversee customer success and delivery in Europe.

The integration supports HOPCo’s existing European clients and extends services to Caro’s customer base. HOPCo plans to bolster its European operations by increasing resources and strengthening partnerships with its international clientele.

Caro’s platform will merge with HOPCo’s digital offerings, including HOPCo Vitals, myrecovery by HOPCo, and the company’s EMR Ecosystem.

The integration is expected to enhance AI capabilities across HOPCo’s cloud-based infrastructure for healthcare practices, ambulatory surgery centres, and health systems.

HOPCo’s partnerships span the US, UK, Australia, and Europe, making it the sole provider of comprehensive, turn-key value-based care programmes for population health.

The acquisition is anticipated to improve patient experiences and operational efficiencies across HOPCo’s markets.

HOPCo’s acquisition of Caro Health signifies a strategic step in redefining musculoskeletal care by enhancing outcomes and reducing costs.

HOPCo global chief information officer Chris Martinez said: “At HOPCo, we are building the most comprehensive digital platform globally with end-to-end products and services necessary to support practices, ambulatory surgery centres, health systems, and payors – from patient management to top-tier Cloud-based security.

“The integration of Caro Health’s innovative technology across our full suite of digital products and services will accelerate our AI roadmap and enable us to better support our customers across the globe in delivering high-quality, cost-effective care.

“Our time-to-value is crucial to our overall success, and we will continue to make strategic acquisitions, develop new products, and hire world-class engineering talent.”
