Connecticut-based healthcare network Hartford HealthCare has selected Abridge’s AI-driven ambient clinical intelligence platform after a successful pilot programme.

Abridge’s platform is designed to alleviate the administrative load of clinical documentation, a key factor contributing to clinician burnout.

It supports multiple languages and specialities, integrating with electronic health records to reduce administrative tasks and enhance patient experiences.

The collaboration will extend Abridge’s platform across various roles within Hartford HealthCare.

The partnership also aims to explore AI applications in nursing workflows, revenue cycle management, and clinical decision-making.

Abridge co-founder and CEO Shiv Rao said: “At Abridge, we share Hartford HealthCare’s vision for how AI can reshape the future of care delivery.

“Together, we are building not just for today’s documentation needs, but for the next era of healthcare—where ambient AI transforms the revenue cycle, accelerates value-based care, and even informs clinical decision-making.

“Hartford Healthcare’s integrated care model, robust innovation ecosystem, and decade-long commitment to accelerating clinically impactful AI make it one of the most forward-looking health systems in the country. We are at the beginning of our journey together and are privileged to be on it.”

Hartford HealthCare operates over 500 locations, providing care to 27,000 individuals daily.

The network includes hospitals, behavioural health systems, and speciality care, recognised nationally for its safety and excellence in patient care.

Its Centre for AI Innovation collaborates with global startups, academic institutions, and corporate partners to explore AI’s potential in healthcare.

Founded in 2018, Abridge develops AI platforms that transform medical dialogues into actionable documentation.

Abridge’s system processes extensive clinician feedback daily, facilitating improvements and ensuring practical application.

Both organisations are focused on leveraging AI to accelerate value-based care and support real-time decision-making.

According to a study by the American Medical Informatics Association, 67% of clinicians using Abridge feel less prone to burnout, aligning with Hartford’s objectives.

Hartford HealthCare vice president and chief clinical innovation officer Barry Stein said: “This innovation is central to patient care and clinician well-being.

“The notes built from the conversations with clinicians and their patients are the foundation of the patient record, and capturing them effortlessly has an outsized impact on both the patient’s and the clinician’s experience.

“Abridge understands this, and their vision is aligned with ours. Together, we are not just keeping pace with where healthcare is going, we are helping to shape it.”

Earlier this year, Abridge entered a strategic partnership with Duke Health to collaboratively explore new health care AI innovations.
