Google’s cloud computing services Google Cloud has forged a partnership with the American academic medical centre Mayo Clinic to improve healthcare with generative artificial intelligence (AI).
The partnership will start with Enterprise Search in Generative AI App Builder (Gen App Builder) to enhance the efficiency of clinical workflows.
It will also make it easier for researchers and clinicians to find the information required to improve patient results.
Additionally, Google Cloud said that its Enterprise Search on Gen App Builder will now support Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance.
According to Google Cloud, the Enterprise Search in Gen App Builder combines data from dispersed documents, intranets, and databases. This makes it easier to search, analyse, and identify the relevant results.
The partnership expands on earlier works with Google Cloud on the digital transformation of Mayo Clinic’s initiatives using AI, analytics, and machine learning solutions.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said: “Generative AI has the potential to transform healthcare by enhancing human interactions and automating operations like never before.
“Mayo Clinic is a world leader in leveraging AI for good, and they are a critical partner as we identify responsible ways to bring this transformative technology to healthcare.”
Google Cloud said that its generative AI products, built on years of research and successfully applied AI, are designed to support healthcare organisations to create real-time and customised interactions.
The generative AI can scan data in more complex ways to create new images, said the company. Tools like Gen App Builder and Generative AI support in Vertex AI can assist healthcare companies in enhancing workforce productivity.
Additionally, generative AI can help simplify administrative procedures and automate tedious tasks to let caregivers focus more on valuable patient interactions.
Mayo Clinic chief information officer Cris Ross said: “Google Cloud’s tools have the potential to unlock sources of information that typically aren’t searchable in a conventional manner, or are difficult to access or interpret, from a patient’s complex medical history to their imaging, genomics, and labs.”
Mayo Clinic is one of the early adopters of Enterprise Search in Gen App Builder. The medical centre is exploring the fusion of Google-quality search with generative AI to generate crucial healthcare information.
Currently, Google Cloud is partnering with Mayo Clinic and various healthcare organisations to continue developing these capabilities in a clinical setting.
