US-based biotechnology company BioLab Holdings has partnered with Real Collagen to develop new wound care products using fish collagen.

Real Collagen is a Germany-based biotechnology firm specialising in the development and production of raw hydrogel material containing fish collagen.

BioLab specialises in wound healing products and offers products like Membrane Wrap Lite, Tri-Membrane Wrap, Membrane Wrap, and Membrane Wrap – Hydro.

The products use human tissue allograft from amniotic membrane, providing structural tissue for wound protection.

BioLab said the collaboration will focus on fish collagen and aims to enhance its wound healing offerings and better meet patient needs.

BioLab chief science officer Carlos Encinas said: “Through this agreement with Real Collagen, we establish a partnership for the development of novel products with a group that shares our values and vision, but most importantly our passion for patient care.”

BioLab president Jaime Leija said: “Biolab Holding’s investment into Real Collagen signifies our continued commitment to helping patients heal from chronic and acute wounds.

“We understand the importance of providing valuable resources to medical providers across the world and intend to leverage the collagen produced by Real Collagen in a multitude of wound care solutions, including our proprietary technology, Dermistat.”

BioLab said its partnership with Real Collagen allows the company to create advanced products in the wound healing space.

Real Collagen has more than 15 years of expertise in producing fish collagen, which is known for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

The company’s unique method of extracting collagen from fish skin preserves its triple helix structure, making it highly effective for wound dressing.

The collagen is derived through a catalysed hydration process, ensuring purity and stability for application in various wound types and offering a cost-effective solution for patients.

Real Collagen CEO Jan Lorenz said: “At Real Collagen, we are dedicated to producing high-quality raw fish collagen and we’re proud to partner with BioLab Holdings, Inc.

“By combining our expertise in fish collagen technology with BioLab’s commitment to patient-centred products, we are confident that this collaboration will lead to groundbreaking advancements in wound healing.

“Together, we strive to provide medical professionals with superior solutions to improve patient outcomes worldwide.”
