Agiliti, a US-based manufacturer and provider of medical device solutions, has launched Essentia, a multi-acuity bed frame designed to accommodate a wide range of patients across different hospital environments.

Essentia is the latest addition to Agiliti’s portfolio of self-manufactured beds and therapeutic support surfaces.

The new bed includes safety features, such as the SlideRail, designed to support patient mobility while minimising risks to caregivers.

Agiliti CEO Tom Leonard said: “The Essentia bed by Agiliti is tailor-made for more flexible and versatile patient care, backed by more than three decades of design innovation and clinical service expertise.

“Its introduction builds on our long legacy of med-tech product and service solutions engineered to make sure caregivers are ready to meet the needs of every patient they serve.”

The SlideRail offers up to 39 inches of unobstructed egress space and can be adjusted to three positions, providing additional support and security as patients enter or exit the bed. It also features adjustable handholds to accommodate different patient sizes and mobility levels, reducing strain on caregivers.

Additionally, the on-bed, lighted SafeGlance icons provide a quick visual reference for key safety indicators, including the bed exit alarm, protocol timer, bed height, and brake status.

The Essentia bed also incorporates several other features to improve patient care and safety. It has a deck height that lowers to 11.5 inches from the floor, among the lowest available for multi-acuity beds, to help reduce the risk of serious injury from falls. The SlideRail further supports fall prevention measures in hospital settings.

The introduction of RevTrend 20 enables a 20-degree reverse Trendelenburg angle to facilitate early mobility therapy. The reinforced footboard allows patients to begin weightbearing exercises earlier in their recovery process.

The PowerBrake with AutoLock feature enables caregivers to control the bed’s movement through three brake settings – brake, steer, or neutral – at multiple locations on the bed.

When plugged in, AutoLock automatically activates the brakes after 60 seconds, preventing unintended movement.

The MotionStop 360 system incorporates obstruction detection around the bed frame, stopping it from lowering if an object is detected to help prevent injuries and equipment damage.

Additional functionalities include a powered foot extension, allowing customisation of the bed deck length between 80 and 88 inches, and support surface compatibility.

The flat deck design accommodates various support surfaces, including Agiliti’s foam and air options, while the higher siderails ensure compliance with safety standards for patients requiring higher levels of care.

In December last year, Agiliti unveiled the Adapt Line of therapeutic hospital support surfaces to enhance patient comfort and clinical results.
